Scrap Fabric Garland

Scrap Fabric Garland

If you’re like me (especially this Christmas!) you have tons of scraps lying around, and there’s a wall, mantle, mirror, or banister that needs some decorating. Once again, here’s a project you can do for FREE with your scraps!

You’ll need a piece of rope, twine, or in my case – a long skinny piece of muslin, and a ton of 1″ x 6-8″ scraps of fabric. Simply tie your scraps onto your twine/rope/muslin, and voila! An instant, free, and no-sew decoration for your home! I also added some metal stars and wooden spools to mine, so maybe it cost me $5, but this is not necessary.

If you’ve done lots of holiday-themed projects, you may have enough scraps to do a Christmas garland, Thanksgiving garland, Valentine’s Day garland, etc …

I actually made those garlands but wrapped my fabric around Christmas lights to give it some festive feel (and cover the ugly cording). I do like it without the lights (I don’t know why it didn’t occur to me to do it that way) and might have to find some time to make some. BTW, love your blog. I also live in WA, in the Kitsap area.

LOVE this! I have been getting some really creative ideas from another blog about how to use your scrap fabric. This is such a cute idea. I just got married and my husband and I are not planning on having children anytime soon. HOWEVER being the planner than I am, I already have a folder with decoration ideas for children’s nurseries/rooms. This idea is going directly into that folder (for a boy and for a girl). Thanks for the inspiration!

I saw one of these garlands at ANTHROPOLOGY at The Summit, it was a little thicker and more uniform but beautiful also.

This is sooo cute. I am going to try this for Christmas this year. I think my daughters will have a great time tying the knots and I will finally have a use for all of that scrap fabric that has been laying around! Thanks!
